Presentation: “Rural Italian Immigration: An Experiment in Arkansas,” Rebecca Howard

In 1895, a priest in New York and a robber baron from Connecticut embarked on a experiment in Italian immigration, enticing entire extended families from targeted rural towns in Italy to move to a plantation in Arkansas. The result was not what they, nor the immigrants, expected. Historian Rebecca Howard will present her research on this project at the Calandra Institute in an in-person event.
