Bridging Worlds in Stories for a Year: A Digital Archive of Pirandello in English

Join us for an engaging conversation about Stories for a Year, a multifaceted project funded by the Ragusa Foundation for the Humanities. This digital humanities project is dedicated to producing the first complete English translation of Luigi Pirandello’s short stories. The goal is not only to bring Pirandello’s full body of short fiction to Anglophone readers for the first time but also to make these texts freely accessible through a digital edition designed for audiences in the US and beyond.

This conversation will bring together translators, editors, and digital humanities scholars to explore the many opportunities and challenges involved in this ambitious endeavor. How do we navigate the complexities of Pirandello’s language, style, and historical context to create translations that resonate today? What does it mean to bridge the literary worlds of early 20th-century Italy and contemporary Anglophone culture? And how can digital publishing reshape the ways we engage with Pirandello’s work, opening up new pathways for research, teaching, and public access?

Whether you’re interested in literary translation, digital scholarship, or the enduring relevance of Pirandello, this conversation will offer fresh insights into the evolving relationship between print and screen, past and present, Italy and the wider world.

Speakers include Lisa Sarti, Michael J Subialka.
