Data Snapshot 10 (April 2025) Italian Americans, Race, and Hispanic Ethnicity Distribution

Demographics, Research, and Analysis

There is much to be understood about how Italians have adapted to becoming Americans and, in turn, how America has changed thanks to the immigration of Italians. As the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute continues with its Italian Diasporas: Data Snapshot project in demographics, research, and data analysis, the aim is to provide information regarding a variety of characteristics related to the Italian diaspora addressing the issues of assimilation and accommodation.

Presently, much attention is being focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. One could add Access to this protocol, as is done at The City University of New York (CUNY), given that access for all is the central aim of such programs. It is not just about opening doors, it is about helping the underserved walk through those doors. CUNY prides itself on being an engine of social mobility.

It is further the case that in the media the scope of ethnic diversity in the United States is writ large. The intersections of race and ethnicity are multifaceted.

The April Data Snapshot provides a look at these intersections for Italian Americans with a particular focus on individuals who also claim Hispanic origins. One can see the data for Italian Americans versus Non Italian Americans indicating the difference between 2000 and 2023.

The Institute invites you to share suggestions for future snapshots and reports.
