Nancy Ziehler

Dr. Nancy Ziehler has been employed by the Calandra Institute since 1985. Having worked in various roles, including doing in-house and outreach counseling, she served as the associate director of counseling at Calandra from 1994 to 2004. Among her accomplishments in that role, Dr. Ziehler worked in conjunction with the NYS Mentor Program to establish AMICI: The Italian American Mentoring Project, an early intervention initiative aimed at assisting at-risk middle-school and high-school students with tutoring and guidance. She also led a mobile crisis unit of Institute counselors to provide trauma counseling to more than 1,000 New Yorkers in the months following the World Trade Center attacks. Dr. Ziehler currently works at Baruch College Counseling Center where she has provided psychological counseling and support to students since 2004. In addition, she delivers ongoing career and college counseling to Italian American high-school students on Staten Island. Dr. Ziehler is passionate about multicultural inclusion and is the editor of Italian American Students in New York City, 1975-2000: A Research Anthology (2011), a volume that addresses the paucity of multicultural counseling literature pertaining to Italian Americans.
